Description CNC Lathe Machinist Euclid, Ohio | $22–$27/hour + Shift Differential| Benefits Starting Day One Precision Machining Takes More Than Pushing a Button. You know when a setup is right. You know when a cut doesn’t sound right. And you know that a few thousandths can be the difference between a finished part and scrap. Elmet Technologies is hiring a CNC Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Euclid, Ohio. In this role, you’ll set up and operate CNC equipment to machine precision components from specialized materials. You’ll work from blueprints and technical specifications, prepare tooling, set up fixtures and workpieces, machine first articles, make offsets and adjustments, and inspect your work to make sure every part meets requirements. The underlying role requires hands-on CNC setup and operation across machining functions including turning, cutting, drilling, reaming, and boring. This is an experienced machining position for someone who understands the entire process—not just how to start the machine. What’s In It for You Your hourly wage is just the beginning. Elmet offers competitive pay, bonuses, benefits, and opportunities to grow. $22–$27 per hour $250 perfect-attendance bonus every month — up to $3,000 per year Quarterly production bonus of up to 9% , based on company performance 4% company match on retirement savings Benefits starting Day One Three medical plan options Dental and vision coverage Company-paid life insurance Company-paid short-term and long-term disability Paid time off Paid company holidays Tuition assistance $2,500 employee referral bonus Internal growth opportunities What You’ll Do As a CNC Lathe Machinist, you’ll be responsible for taking work from setup through machining and inspection. You’ll: Read and interpret blueprints, routing sheets, sketches, and technical specifications Determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining sequences Prepare and preset tools for CNC equipment Set up CNC lathes for turning and related machining operations Mount, align, and secure fixtures, tooling, attachments, and workpieces Assemble cutting tools and position tool holders in machine turrets Retrieve and load preprogrammed machining instructions Calculate and set machine controls and key process variables Verify setups against required dimensions, depths, angles, tolerances, and specifications Machine first-article parts for inspection and quality approval Monitor machine operation throughout the production process Perform tool changes and make offsets and adjustments to maintain specifications Make minor adjustments to preprogrammed instructions when needed to meet product requirements Perform manual machine functions when necessary Recognize programming, tooling, or equipment problems and work with supervisors or programming personnel to resolve them Inspect finished work using precision measuring and inspection equipment Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas according to established safety and quality standards The source role specifically gives the machinist responsibility for tooling and fixture setup, first-article machining, tool changes, offsets, minor program adjustments, and responding to machine or programming problems. Requirements You Could Be a Great Fit! This isn’t an entry-level machine operator role. We’re looking for someone who already has a strong CNC machining foundation. You could be a great fit if you: Have a high school diploma, vocational school diploma, or GED Have significant hands-on CNC machining experience Have experience setting up and operating CNC lathes Can read and interpret complex blueprints and layouts Understand machining tolerances and specifications Understand tooling, fixtures, offsets, and machining processes Can use micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators, and other precision inspection equipment Can recognize when a machining process is moving out of specification Can make appropriate tooling, offset, or machine adjustments Are comfortable working with computer-controlled manufacturing equipment Can troubleshoot problems rather than simply stopping when something goes wrong Take safety, quality, and precision seriously The existing job description specifies five to seven years of CNC machining experience and requires competency in blueprint interpretation, tolerances, precision measurement, and machine operation and maintenance. Additional Tools in Your Toolbox Experience with any of the following can help you hit the ground running: FANUC controls HAAS controls OKUMA controls CAD/CAM software CNC turning Multi-axis machining First-article machining and inspection Precision measurement Complex blueprint interpretation Tool setup and presetting Machine troubleshooting Experience with FANUC, HAAS, and OKUMA controls and CAD/CAM software is preferred in the underlying role. What Success Looks Like Successful CNC Lathe Machinists: Set up machines correctly and efficiently Understand the blueprint before machining begins Select and prepare the right tooling Produce first articles that meet specifications Monitor the machining process rather than simply waiting for a cycle to finish Measure parts accurately throughout production Recognize changes in tooling or machine performance Make appropriate offsets and adjustments Catch problems before they become scrap Maintain consistent quality throughout a production run Troubleshoot problems and communicate clearly when additional support is needed Take care of their machines, tooling, and work area Work safely and consistently Precision Is Part of the Job In CNC machining, small differences matter. You’ll work with complex prints, defined tolerances, precision measuring equipment, tooling, fixtures, and machine controls to make sure each part meets its requirements. The role requires proficiency with equipment including micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators, and optical comparators. That means knowing more than how to operate a machine. You need to understand what it’s doing, recognize when something has changed, and know what adjustment needs to be made.
