The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City clean, safe, and healthy by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning streets, attacking the scourge of illegal dumping, and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2,000 rear-loading collection trucks, 450 mechanical brooms, 705 salt spreaders, and several dozen bike lane operations machines. Under the Adams Administration, the Department is aggressively cleaning more parts of the City than ever before, including over 1,000 long-ignored areas spread across every neighborhood. With the highest wintertime uniformed headcount in 20 years, DSNY is more equipped than ever to remove snow and ice from the approximately 19,000 lane-miles of City streets. DSNY is seeking an experienced clerical professional to join our Employee Assistance Unit (EAU), the agency’s in-house Employee Assistance Program. The EAU supports DSNY’s workforce of approximately 10,000 employees and is part of the Department’s Medical Division. Responsibilities of the Clerical Associate in EAU include, but are not limited to: - Answering phones and recording messages, including inputting all new referrals into the EAU database - Maintaining and updating physical files (folders/charts) as needed - Becoming familiar with all aspects of EAU operations (data base, forms, treatment programs, referrals) to promote balance of workflow - Providing crisis support as needed to employees who call the main EAU number, providing relevant information to EAU counselors who will follow up with employees, handling clients who may present as irrational and upset, using reasonable judgment to request assistance from other staff members with client management whenever needed - Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement activities such as conducting monthly QA of service documentation, participating in quality indicator projects to improve services - Collaborating with DSNY staff at many different levels, establishing and encouraging positive professional connections - Tracking reported on-the-job incidents (such as a Sanitation Worker getting harassed, injured, or sick) to ensure appropriate EAU follow-up - Maintaining inventory of supplies, business cards, and other office resources - Providing clerical support as needed to EAU counselors and other Medical Division staff - Other related tasks as assigned Note : Candidates should be a permanent Clerical Associate or serving in a similar title. Candidates that are on the Clerical Associate list under exam # 3120 will be considered as well. CLERICAL ASSOCIATE - 10251 Qualification Requirements A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience. Skills Requirement Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
