When a highly automated operation experiences a critical issue, every second counts. As a Technical Specialist at Dematic, you'll play a pivotal role in keeping a complex, fast-paced logistics operation running at peak performance. Working as part of a rotating day and night shift team, you'll act as the technical authority on shift, diagnosing complex faults, leading root-cause investigations and helping to prevent issues from recurring. This is more than a maintenance role. You’ll combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership and coaching, helping to develop the capabilities of the wider engineering team while supporting one of the most advanced automated material handling environments in the industry. Acting as the primary technical escalation point for automation, controls and system performance issues. Diagnosing and resolving complex PLC, electrical, mechanical, electronic and network-related faults. Leading root-cause investigations and implementing permanent corrective and preventative actions. Using SCADA, WCS, WMS and operational data to identify trends, recurring failures and reliability improvement opportunities. Coordinating technical fault management between the customer, Dematic and specialist third-party support providers. Managing PLC backups, version control, software changes and technical documentation. Supporting planned maintenance activities and ensuring technical standards are maintained across the site. Driving continuous improvement initiatives that improve reliability, availability, performance and throughput. Supporting site performance by prioritising faults based on operational impact and business needs. Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company and legislative requirements. Helping Others Succeed: A key part of this role is developing the technical capability of the wider engineering team. We're looking for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and helping others grow. You'll: Coach and mentor engineers through complex fault-finding activities. Provide technical support and guidance to shift technicians. Help develop technical training plans and skills-development programmes. Create and improve troubleshooting guides, technical documentation and best-practice processes. Support the ongoing development of the site's technical training matrix. Raise technical standards and confidence across the engineering team. Success in this role is measured not only by your own technical expertise, but also by your ability to elevate the capability of those around you. The Technology You'll Work With: You'll work with a wide range of advanced automation technologies, including: Siemens PLC systems Industrial communication networks including Profinet, Profibus and AS-i SCADA and Equipment Information Systems Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) Inverter drives and motion control technologies Barcode scanning and identification systems Automated conveyor and material handling equipment. What We're Looking For: We're interested in engineers who enjoy understanding how complex systems work, thrive on solving technical challenges and take pride in developing others. Essential HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Strong PLC fault-finding and diagnostic experience. Experience within automated, manufacturing, production or logistics environments. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to provide technical leadership and guidance. A proactive approach to continuous improvement and root-cause analysis. Desirable Siemens PLC experience. Recognised engineering apprenticeship. Experience working with automated warehouse or conveyor systems. Knowledge of SCADA, WCS or WMS platforms. Understanding of industrial communication networks. IOSH certification.
