Supplier Quality Engineer – MEMS & LCOS (P70) Position Summary Lumentum is seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to drive supplier quality excellence for semiconductor commodities supporting next-generation AI clusters, hyperscale cloud data centers, coherent optical communications, silicon photonics, and advanced photonic technologies. The major tasks is to improve the quality performance of suppliers supporting MEMS and LCOS devices. The successful candidate will work closely with internal component Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Procurement, and Quality teams, as well as external suppliers, to ensure robust processes, consistent product quality from correlated suppliers. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer with expertise in semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging technologies, and supplier development. This role will be responsible for supplier qualification, supplier process and product quality, failure analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement across the semiconductor and optical component supply chain. Key Responsibilities Manage supplier quality for MEMS and LCOS devices, wafers, components, assemblies, and related semiconductor materials. Lead supplier qualification, capability assessment, and ongoing performance monitoring. Conduct supplier process audits, product audits, and quality system assessments. Evaluate key semiconductor manufacturing processes, including wafer fabrication, MEMS structure formation, bonding, wafer-level packaging, dicing, assembly, optical alignment, testing, and final inspection. Support LCOS-related processes, including silicon backplane, liquid crystal cell assembly, optical performance testing, contamination control, alignment, and packaging. Review supplier quality requirements, control plans, inspection standards, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria to ensure it is fully aligned with factory inspection. Work with CE to drive supplier quality activities from NPI to MP, including design review, process qualification, first article inspection, and production ramp-up. Review and approve supplier documentation, including PFMEA, process flow, control plan, work instructions, SPC plans, MSA studies, reliability plans, and change-control procedures. Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier-related issues using 8D, Fishbone, 5 Why, DOE, and other structured problem-solving methods. Coordinate failure analysis for electrical, mechanical, optical, reliability, contamination, yield, and performance-related issues. Monitor supplier quality dashboard, including yield, DPPM, customer returns, corrective-action closure, process capability, and on-time delivery. Manage supplier change notifications and assess the impact of changes to materials, processes, equipment, tooling, software, facilities, and manufacturing sites with CCB/SPCN procss. Support qualification and validation of alternative suppliers and second sources. Establish and maintain supplier improvement plans for high-risk or underperforming suppliers. Ensure suppliers comply with applicable quality standards, customer requirements, ESD controls, contamination-control requirements, and change-management procedures. Provide regular quality updates, risk assessments, escalation reports, and improvement recommendations to management. Support customer audits, internal audits, and cross-functional quality reviews when required. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related discipline. 10+ years of experience in semiconductor quality, supplier quality, wafer manufacturing, optical components, or advanced packaging. Experience working with semiconductor suppliers, wafer fabs, OSATs, MEMS manufacturers, optical component suppliers, or display-related suppliers. Strong knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes, quality systems, and supplier management practices. Hands-on experience with root-cause analysis, 8D, CAPA, SPC, MSA, FMEA, control plans, and process capability analysis. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, test data, process data, and reliability reports. Experience with supplier audits and process qualification. Strong communication, negotiation, project management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and effectively in a cross-functional and international environment. Willingness to travel to supplier sites as required. Fluent written and spoken English. Preferred Qualifications Experience with MEMS, LCOS cell, or related optical electro products. Knowledge of wafer-level packaging, flip-chip, wire bonding, die attach, optical alignment, and active/passive assembly. Experience with optical and electrical characterization, including wavelength response, uniformity, contrast ratio, switching performance, leakage current, image quality, and reliability testing. Knowledge of semiconductor and optical reliability testing, including temperature cycling, high-temperature operating life, humidity testing, mechanical shock, vibration, ESD, and accelerated life testing. Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, JEDEC, IPC, or other relevant industry standards. Experience with statistical data analysis and quality tools such as Minitab, JMP, or equivalent software or AI. Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
